Habitat Action Plans For West London

What are the most important habitats in west London ?

The habitats for wildlife in west London are many and varied. Those interested in nature conservation and biodiversity have known about them for years and have done much to promote and protect our most important habitats.

For information on the various habitats see the habitats introduction page.

What are Habitat Action Plans ?

There are now formal plans called 'Habitat Action Plans' or HAPs to protect various types of habitat. These plans are a major component of 'Biodversity Action Plans' which are now in place for many parts of the country, including west London.

The table below lists the habitats that are the subject of Habitat Action Plans (HAPs) in west London boroughs as at April 2004. The descriptions and ranges of habitats covered in the various HAPs differ for each borough. We therefore needed to re-classify and re-group the habitats to some extent in order to summarise the data and compare boroughs. The precise scope of an HAP can only be found by inspecting the relevant borough's BAP.
